Spring is the season after winter, when temperatures rise. It gets warmer and summer is around the corner. Plants grow and flowers bloom. The landscape turns green again. Many animals give birth. The farmers mow grass to make hay.
How long is spring?
According to meteorologists (weather experts), spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere on the first of March and ends on the 31st of May, hence March, April, and May fall in this season. For astronomers, however, spring begins with the equinox. This is when days and nights are equally long, which takes place on the 21st or 22nd of March. Spring ends at the summer solstice, when the days are longest. Summer begins on the 20th or 21st of June.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are opposite those in the Northern Hemisphere, so spring starts on September 1st and ends on November 30th.
What’s special about spring?
People have always considered spring an important time of the year. Warm clothes are not necessary anymore and people can spend time outside. Therefore, the beginning of spring has always been cause for celebration in many cultures. It is said that people are more likely to fall in love in spring than in any other season.
