Philadelphia is a major city in the United States of America. It has around 1,6 Million inhabitants which makes it the sixth largest city in the US. Philadelphia is located in Pennsylvania on the Delaware River. The name Philadelphia comes from the ancient Greek words „philía“ for love and „adelphós“ for brother. Therefore Philadelphia is called the „City of brotherly love“.

Philadelphia was founded by William Penn in 1682. Back then Pennsylvania was a colony of the British Empire. Philadelphia played an important role in the war of independence: The Declaration of Independence was signed there in 1776. After the Independence, Philadelphia was the capital of the US for a few years.

Philadelphia is one of the most important cities for the US economy.
